CONTINUUM Comprehensive Training Program

ASAM needed a robust training solution for new CONTINUUM software users. This included both live/hybrid experiences and a scalable self-paced eLearning module.

Client
American Society of
Addiction Medicine (ASAM)

My role:

Project Manager and Instructional Designer leading the development of content, course design, and delivery across both modalities.

Objectives:

Provide a comprehensive onboarding experience for CONTINUUM users.

Deliver hands-on practice in live settings and flexibility through eLearning.

Ensure accessibility, accuracy, and alignment with client workflows.

Design process

  1. Conducted needs analysis to understand user profiles and training gaps.

  2. Designed the live/hybrid course, including instructor guides, learner handouts, case-based scenarios, and interactive sessions.

  3. Built a complementary self-paced course incorporating simulations and practice activities.

  4. Tested both modalities for usability and accessibility, gathering stakeholder and SME feedback.

  5. Launched the courses through ASAM’s LMS and communicated availability via partner channels.

Challenges & solutions

  • Addressed complex, client-specific learning needs by customizing cases and materials.

  • Balanced the depth and scope of an 8-hour self-paced course to maintain engagement and usability.

  • Ensured both formats supported consistent learning outcomes and user readiness.

Outcomes & impact

  • Live training enabled confident, real-time user onboarding with flexible customization.

  • The eLearning course broadened access, especially for those unable to attend live sessions.

  • Positive learner evaluations and stakeholder feedback informed ongoing iterations.

Reflection

  • This project demonstrated the value of multimodal learning strategies for software training.

  • It deepened my skills in designing both facilitated and autonomous learning experiences.

  • I also honed the ability to balance standardization with customization, and to adapt content for both breadth and depth.
